Nokia To Cut Hundreds Of Jobs

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

ust a couple of weeks ago Nokia announced they will lay off 450 employees in the services unit in an attempt to reorganize and cut costs.
On Tuesday, Nokia has announced two rounds of further job cuts which will result in up to 490 staff losing their jobs with the company.

This time around, they are expecting to cut up to 170 jobs in logistics, production management and production support but plans do not affect production employees at Nokia's mobile device manufacturing facilities. A voluntary resignation package is said to be available for up to 320 employees working at Finland’s Salo plant.

"These measures are part of Nokia's previously announced plans to adjust its business operations and cost base in accordance with market demand and safeguard future competitiveness," the statement said.

Faced with a slump in business due to the global financial turmoil, Nokia has already announced over 3,500 job cuts this year and with job cuts announced on Tuesday Nokia has slashed around 4,000 jobs across the organisation this year.
